Penalty for Ringing-In Early
Previous  Top  Next

Some teams develop a "ring in first, then think later" mentality, which deprives other teams the chance to read, then react to the question. The Penalty for Ringing-In Early option gives the Instructor a tool to curb this behavior, if desired.

NOTE: To activate the Penalty for Ringing-In Early option, select which Buzzer System you are using from the Game Setup tab first.

-ring-insystem

Then select the desired setting for Penalty for Ringing-In Early:

-penaltyforringinginearly_game3

Click on the drop-down menu and select from the following options:

·Ignore--There is no penalty for ringing-in early.
·Lock-Out Ring-In--The offending team is disqualified from ringing-in again during that question.
·Lock-Out for...--The offending team is barred from ringing-in for a designated number of seconds.
·Treat as Incorrect--The offending team is treated as though they have answered the question incorrectly. Points are deducted according to your Scoring Rules preference for Points Per Square or Points For Tic Tac Toe.
·Stop Reading and Require Answer--The offending team must answer the question immediately--whether the question has been fully revealed or not.
·Deduct Points...--The offending team will have a designated amount of points deducted from their score. However, they are not locked-out of answering the question.

Click on your preferred option. The default setting is Lock-Out for...1 second. To change the amount of time a team is locked out, click on a pre-set value from 1-60 seconds:

-secondsdrop-down

You may also highlight the Seconds field and enter the desired amount of time, in seconds.

If you have selected the Deduct Points... option in the Penalty for Ringing-In Early menu, the Points menu appears:

-pointsdrop-down

To change the number of points deducted, click on Question Value or on a pre-set value from 50-1000 points. You may also highlight the Points field and enter a value for Penalty for Ringing-In Early.
